SPELLING BEE WORD CLUB

Spelling improves reading and writing fluency as well as vocabulary and comprehension.  As a matter of fact, the path to fluent reading includes a firm foundation in the knowledge of sounds represented by letters and their spelling.

Learning to spell helps to cement the connection between the letters and their sounds. As stated by Dr. Louisa Moats, author of many influential scientific journal articles, books, and policy papers on the topics of reading, spelling and language. She describes this connection as follows:  "The correlation between spelling and reading comprehension is high because both depend on a common denominator: proficiency with language."
